24/11/2013 - OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría has welcomed the initial Understanding reached early Sunday between Iran and the P5+1 countries (China, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States) on Iran's nuclear programme.
The Understanding reduces the threat of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and is a boost for the chances of lasting peace and security in a highly unstable region, said Mr Gurría.
Mr Gurría added: "The understanding is also an important opportunity, and if followed by other positive actions, could lead to the gradual normalisation of relations between Iran and the international community, which would allow for its re-integration into the world economy".
"If this normalisation were to happen, the OECD would be ready to work with Iran, as it works with the Middle East and North Africa region, to boost growth, job creation and the well-being of its citizens."
